Description

Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) which fails to respond to steroids and calcineurin inhibitors frequently progresses to end stage kidney disease and can recur in the kidney transplant. Limited treatment options are available for treatment-resistant FSGS and recurrent FSGS in transplant. Low-density lipoprotein apheresis has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of refractory FSGS in children and adults and has an FDA designation as Humanitarian Use Device in children. This course will review what lipoprotein apheresis is and how it might work in FSGS, and reviews the clinical experience in children and adults.
